Thank you for posting this. I had this exact problem this weekend and I would have never known what to do without this video.
Very well done video. You did some quick diagnostics and concluded the carb was the problem. Nice closeups of carb jets etc. I followed the directions and resolved the problem perfectly. Thanks also for not getting super-hammy and wasting a lot of time.
Thanks for the well-done video. I just worked on a trimmer identical to this one before finding this video. I'm familiar with this style OHV Briggs engine, but the carb wasn't the problem. For some reason, the coil had opened up the gap on one side. I've never had this happen, but on visual inspection, it was obvious. Must've been from vibration. I don't really have a negative opinion on these plastic carbs. Much easier to open up the jets than on Honda OHC small engine carbs, that's for sure.
Nice steady explanatory Vid - Thanks , personally speaking most of my small engine issues that I experience relate to stale disgusting ethanol fuel gumming up the jets after 30 days it starts to degrade. I use ethanol free wherever possible and it certainly relieves the situation. I also adopt the same regime on my motorcycles.
Thanks so much for this video. As others have said already, I have this type of trimmer with the same problem you showed. I followed you guide and was able to fix it. You probably just saved me hundreds of dollars by not needing to take it to a repair shop.
Of course I would fix it! They are easy to work on and don’t corrode. About the only thing that you see go wrong is the brass jet clogs, usually with broken down fuel. Magnify that x 10 if the fuel contains ethanol. Not too much sticks to plastic.
If you take one of those bread twist ties and burn off the plastic wrap on it, they work great to clean out a carb with. A bent paperclip is not always the correct size to use for such. If you can get your thumb to cover that choke after you spray in carb cleaner of add some gas to the carb, it will often help in getting the gas initially primed to the carb. Nice and informative video.
I would stick with the metal ones sure more stuff to clean but less prone to clogging would be my guess. love your channel.
Great video! Thank you so much I'm dealing with the exact same issue so I will try to repair mine as well
Great video...im a huge fan of you and taryl fixes all...i never worked on a newer plastic carb yet my two mowers still have points in them ....but i have heard that the reason you had a hard time cleaing the jet out with a wire is cause they are made to small to begin with...i think it was on steves small engine saloon that he showed where you can drill the jet out and it makes it run just FINE...im so happy to see plastic carburetors now on lawnmowers cant wait till they start putting computers and self touch screens on them like that are on all the new cars now :- )
Nice fix! Let the viewers know the orientation of the carburetor bowl (which follows the shape of the jet) is important, too!
Thank you ever so much! With your detailed video, I figured out mine wouldn't start because some moron "professional" that worked on it last year didn't put the clip back in place, so the fuel was getting choked off! Smoked like crazy out of the muffler! I can't imagine what they would've charged me for the "fix". Runs like a charm now.
Well done video....steady camera, detailed close ups and a good speaking voice. I have a Cub Cadet ST-100 (159cc) that refuses to start as well. The gas smells like varnish so I'm thinking a fouled carb needle valve......I'll have a go at it today. (subscribed)
Thanks for sharing I was able to fix mine watching your video step by step. Really appreciate it!!!!
Absolutely loved the repair...
Got my DR trimmer mower running thanks to your advice. Well done video!
I have less than zero knowledge of mechanic work but this video was so good that I did everything advised by the narrator to my machine and it worked!!! I cannot believe it!! Thank you so much for the way you did the video and how you made it possible to follow in real world steps. So many of the instruction videos skip steps, don't narrate well or do not "show" what you need to see to follow them, but this couldn't have been more perfect. If a 54 year old woman can use it to mechanic repairs, then it's a great video. Thank you again. P.S. I did not mind the plastic parts, but I am a novice.
Thank you! Home garage. I followed your video and it was and it was the same problem with my carburetor so your fix worked great thank you so much that saved me over $100 easily and the trip to town which is a 40-minute drive. One quick question if I could on the top of the air filter could I put electrical tape over those little holes where you take the air filter cover off? Thank you so much for the video
Thanks for sharing. I have the same type weed eater. Because of this video I was able to repair my welder with no issues. If not I would have sent it to a repair shop.
