Thank you! I’ve been looking for these simple answers for 2 weeks now! So glad someone finally explained how it all works in a way that makes sense to people that are not HVAC trained.
He does a good job of explaining the details that many other videos did not share. It is easy to troubleshoot.
Thank you David, very easy to understand and straight forward videos. I am trying to troubleshoot Goodman heat pump. Now I am equipped with some good first troubleshooting steps for my handyman to execute. You right it’s not rocket science, but many folks struggle to understand it all, simply because there are so many components in a heat pump. I think you simplified them quiet a bit for sure. There are other things as well such as pressure switches etc, but overall I think this video is solid. I like it... tomorrow I will be doing some pressure testing along with evacuation procedure and some thermostat troubleshooting. Note I am just home owner not HVAC tech. I was thinking now that I run my whole house on solar, maybe I will also install heat strip.... or maybe my 2nd stage heat... or should I say 3rd.... I have radiators in my house heating up my house with tankless water heater.... I wonder if I can hook up my thermostat to all 3 things.... heat strip.... and my tankless water heater.....
You're right! It's not complicated! I just needed it explained clearly! Thank you so much - first time home owner, strapped for cash, and now the master of my HVAC system!
David you are amazing, sharing your knowledge and putting out quality vids.
Awesome video and explanation Mr. Jones! I'm a routine follower of yours. Thanks for the time and effort to teach the new generation.
Hi Jones, Great video. I have recently replace my honeywell thermostat with next 3rd generation and I have followed your advice of taking a picture and connected my nest. First, For some reason, the original builder electrician didn't follow the industry standard. For some reason, he used the blue wire as HOT (instead of the red) and left the RED wire unused from the heater. So, I didn't have a common wire from my Gas furnace. But, I followed the original connections to the nest. Orinally, the thermostat had R & Rc are jumped and missing lead connector for C.
This guy is the best! He explains EVERYTHING. He's the first one I've found that goes through trouble shooting. Glad to have him out there.
Very informative and useful for the homeowners... thank you for parting with your knowledge and know how
Excellent work and would say very detailed explanation for DIY home owners. Can see real honesty..... David thanks for saving us from crook technician s
I’m trying to join the hvac industry and this helps a lot simply put together for me to understand without trying to go crazy into hvac terms thanks I agree picture save you also looking up what the wire & letter means cause it might not be the same color wire thanks
just to let you know nobody explains it so well as you do. you are a great teacher.
It would have been nice to include short testing in the video. For example to test the compressor, connect power (red) with a specific color (ex. yellow) or for fan (G) and red. etc. I'm not that savvy, but this would help to identify what's happening with any breakdown or not.
This video is exactly what we all needed!! You are soo amazing!!
Wonderful video, in fact the best video. Thank you David for being thorough in your presentation.
Thank you David, your instruction got my gas heat to work, manually, and it is heating my house.
Hi David, thank you for your helpful videos. It makes easier now. Yesterday I got an issue with ceiling (townhouse) heat pump and really stuck - Everything looks well, but outside unit (compressor) doesn't start. Also relay (transformer - aux - limit) is buzzing. Before no buzz, but unit was worked. Customer changed wall thermostat and it stopped. I came, replaced the thermostat for heat pumps, started work. Run 2 days, then stopped again and buzzing noise showed up again. Have you get something like this?
Very simple and informative for us dummies ,great video
Beautiful, crystal clear, very useful explanation, many many thanks and well done
David Jones may be a tradesman, but he is being a professional here. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It really is very simple. I almost hired a service tech for an $85 service call (and that is cheap nationally).
